Welcome to Image Reborn

Image Reborn is a breast reconstruction support group designed to meet the needs of women contemplating, undergoing or who have undergone breast reconstruction after mastectomy. It seeks to assist women in meeting their physical, social and psychological needs throughout the breast reconstruction process by providing an accepting, supportive environment in which women can discuss their feelings about self image, what effect mastectomy has had on their sexuality and the options available for reconstruction.

Image Reborn emphasizes education and support through it's monthly meetings, on-line chats, seminars and telephone support network where women can discuss their concerns with other patients who themselves have undergone breast reconstruction and can relate their experience first hand.

Unlike other support groups, Image Reborn focuses on moving forward after breast cancer treatment through a "rebirth" of ones body image by way of breast reconstruction. It is coordinated by patients who themselves have had breast reconstruction and who have a unique perspective on the issues related to reconstructive breast surgery.

We understand that many of you may have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and are overwhelmed with the prospects of breast removal in the near future. We also know that under these circumstances it is often difficult for you and your family to retain the complex information you have received. It is with this in mind that we have provided links to valuable information concerning all areas of breast reconstruction so that you can better and more fully understand the options available to you. If you and your surgeon have already come to a decision, the information provided will serve to reinforce many of the things already discussed during your consultation.

"Lessons from the Geese"

The first lesson is that each goose flies in formation, the flap of it's wings creates an uplift for the goose that is following. By sharing thoughts and experiences and beliefs, it creates an uplift for each member of this group.

The second lesson is that geese face great hurdles when they fly alone. If a goose falls out of formation, it feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. This lesson suggests we should stay in formation with the members who are headed in our direction. We need to acknowledge an acceptance of help from others as well as helping each other.

The third lesson is that when a goose gets tired, it moves toward the back of the formation and another goose takes the lead. We as a group depend on each other for the needed uplift and help in going in the right direction.

The fourth lesson from the geese is that honking is meant to be a form of encouragement, support, searching and sharing that takes place at our meetings.

The last lesson from the geese is that when a gooses becomes wounded or sick, two other geese drop out of formation. They follow the ailing goose to the ground to give it help and protection until the wounded goose can fly again. We are learning to stand beside one another and help one another when we face difficult times as well as when we are strong.

This is truly what Image Reborn is all about!
